Mount.Abu- The Only Hill Station in Rajasthan

One of the many beautiful views you would get to see in Mount.Abu. This snap was taken on the way to my hotel. The journey from Abu Road Station to Mount.Abu is nearly 30 Kms long and is a challenge for a driver who has not been through this road before. According to sources the vehicle will have to make nearly 7-8 rounds around a mountain to reach to the top, but I guess we did much more than that.

TOAD ROCK - Abu abounds in grotesquely shaped rocks which often resemble animals and even on occassion human beings. As such protrusion, overhanging the south of Nakki Lake is the famous Toad Rock. Its shape resembles a gaint toad over looking the lake. From here the beautiful view of the whole valley looks very fine. Beside Toad Rock, there are also Nun Rock, Nandi Rock and Camel Rock because of their resemblance to these figures. Below is another view of the Toad Rock as it overlooks the Nakki Lake.

Mount.Abu is witness to a number of temples. If you stand at any point in Mt.Abu, there's a high possibility that you'll be witness to a holy shrine. Some of the very famous temples here are the Dilwara Temples, The Adhar Devi Temple and the Gaumukh Temple. This snap was taken from one of these many temples. We had to climb nearly 200 stairs to reach to this strategic point. And below an old lady gets help to reach the temple.

Nakhi Lake-Nakhi is a very ancient sacred Lake, according to the Hindu legent. It was so called because, it was dug out from Nails (Nakh) of Gods to live in, for protection against the oppressions of Bashkali-a wicked demon. It is an Artificial Lake surrounded by hill of aravali range. The Lake is about a half mile long and quarter of mile broad and 20 to 30 ft. deep towards the dam on the west. The green hills near the lake, date-palms and Gandhi Ghat garden enhance its beauty. The ashes of Mahatma Gandhi wre immersed in this Holly Lake on 12th Febryary, 1948 and Gandhi Ghat was constructed, with green lawns, colourful flower beds and gushing fountains, in his memory. In the heart of the Lake, a Jet fountain was installed in the year 1972 A.D., from which the coloured water, gushes out very high in the Sky.

Rajasthani Food- I got a chance to taste some Rajasthani food. One recommendation- make sure you run a extra mile to burn that extra cholestrol.

They call it the local taxi, and yes we are not complaining. A local trip from Mount.Abu to Abu Road railway station can cost you nearly Rs 250 {US$6}.

This is the place where a scene from the very famous Hindi movie 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' was shot. Just to help you out, this was the place where Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla built their temperary house after they eloped.

Contemporary or Old Fashioned-You Decide
Seen here is a cart that is used to drive people around to their destination. You will often find this mode of transport in Mount Abu. Its shot against the sharp contrast of modern day transport. Also you get a glimpse of a man clad in typical everyday Rajasthani clothes.

Come to me and I shall give you rest
This holy man seems to be enjoying his afternoon siesta. Mount.Abu is a place of temples. You would also find a lot of holy men there, many of whom would prefer to stay on top of mountains, alof from modern day drama and chaos.

And Finally one of the finest schools in the state of Rajasthan. St. Mary's High School is situated on an elevated plateau with an extensive view of mountains and valleys and its locale is noted for its delightful walks.
